What Does it Take to Turn the Senate Blue?
A host of volunteers is working to take down Susan Collins in Maine and return the Senate to sanity. Here are some recent numbers:
  • 4,500 people on SLGB and Maine mailing lists (from New England and around the country)
  • 150,000 dials by out-of-state groups into Maine since February
  • 20,000 letters to encourage absentee voting in the primary
  • 1,500 new voters registered
  • 6,000 voter registration letters going out to Dems who have moved to Maine

Want to be part of a team that can help grow those numbers?
Make calls on:
Sundays @ 4:00 pm – 6: 00 pm
Mondays @ 4:00 pm – 6: 00 pm
Wednesdays @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Thursdays @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Building Bridges in Wisconsin
Right now, the best tool for building bridges is your phone
Bridge Building in Wisconsin
Here’s the plan: In support of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, we’ll be making calls to Wisconsin voters. We’re simply asking what issues they care most about and which candidates they support.

This is your chance to talk with voters outside of our Blue Bubble. It’s wonderful to have real conversations without the pressure of trying to convince anyone. Studies show that these types of phone calls are more productive and more enjoyable for both voters and the phone bank participants.

These calls are critical to the success of Democratic candidates up and down the ballot, from the White House to the state legislatures.

CALL TO ACTION
Carolyn Bourdeaux for GA-7
Carolyn Bourdeaux for GA-7
Meet Carolyn Bourdeaux

The race for Georgia’s 7th district is one of the top targeted races in the country to strengthen the Democratic majority in the House. After losing the 2018 race for this district by only 500 votes, Carolyn Bourdeaux has a real opportunity: Bourdeaux’s previous opponent, Rep. Rob Woodall, will not seek re-election, making this an open seat in 2020.

Heading into the election, Bourdeaux enters as the favorite. She has also earned key early endorsements, including the late U.S. Rep. John Lewis, U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, Senator Sam Nunn, Ambassador Andrew Young, several members of the Georgia state legislature, and other community leaders.

Meet Carolyn “face-to-face” on Sunday, July 26 @ 4:30 pm.

BTW, you can read the article about Carolyn in last November’s newsletter issue.

Phone Banking 201
contributed by Drew Olsen, PA Intern
What’s Up in PA?
On July 19, the PA phone banking team brought our hardworking volunteers and captains together to celebrate our collective victories. In just the past month, we:
  • Made over 7,500 calls
  • Onboarded and trained 20 phone banking captains
  • Helped the Florida phone banking team “chase” (e.g., follow-up) their vote-by-mail (VBM) postcards by calling and speaking to 100s of Florida voters
During the meeting on July 19, we introduced the next phase of our work in Pennsylvania. We’ve targeted three candidates: Paul Friel in HD-26, Claudette Williams in HD-176, and Janet Diaz in SD-13. Their campaign managers introduced their respective candidates and elaborated on their positions. These candidates are challengers in difficult swing districts. Flipping these seats is critical to retaking the Pennsylvania legislature and swinging PA blue.

Flip PA with Vote by Mail
Frustrated by being far from the political action? Want to help ensure Biden wins critical Pennsylvania? Believe Dems need to demolish the worst gerrymandering in the country? If so, you know it’s time to take back the Pennsylvania Senate.

Swing Left Greater Boston is supporting George Scott’s campaign for PA Senate (SD-15). We’re encouraging — and making it easier for — PA Democrats to request applications for the state’s new no-excuse vote-by-mail ballot. VBM will protect voters from unsafe or hostile voting conditions on Nov. 3.

We’re starting with a letter-writing campaign, and you and your friends are on the critical path to success.

If you’re ready to host a virtual event and recruit volunteers —
or if you’d just like to talk about the process — get in touch at:
Help Pennsylvania Democrats Vote by Mail. Host a Flip Pennsylvania Letters-to-Go Event
It’s easy to request a pack of letters (50 in a pack), get some friends together, and start writing. We need to deliver the first batch of letters to the Scott campaign by August 13.

This is your chance to increase participation among low-frequency voters
“Save Our Voters” Fall Internship
If you or someone you know is a college student who cares about increasing the vote among low-frequency voters, read on.

Swing Left Greater Boston and other New England volunteers are offering students the opportunity to increase election participation among sporadic voters. The campaign aims to boost Democratic turnout and prevent voter suppression across the Swing States.

The fall internship program runs from August 24 through the election. Interns commit to 8-10 hours per week at times that accommodate their schedules. They will send vote-by-mail applications, call voters, and staff voter protection teams. The most successful interns will have strong organizational, interpersonal, technical and research skills, and a passion for social change.

Reaching out in Spanish is a first for us and the Broward County Democratic Party
Launch in Broward County
The big story this week is that the Swing Left Greater Boston’s FL team went live in Broward County. The postcard e-store we use made changes that allow us to offer materials in both English and Spanish. We’re starting with a list of 25,000 voters who will receive English language cards and another 25,000 voters who will receive cards in both Spanish and English.

Latino vote-by-mail registrations in Broward County are very low. We’re hoping this campaign will give the community the opportunity to vote safely and conveniently by mail rather than taking the many risks of voting in person.

This is a great opportunity for volunteers who care about raising Latino participation and turning FL blue. We can really effect change when people like you step up to host postcard writing and phone banks, distribute English and Spanish materials, and even write cards and other documents.
