Activist Afternoons Celebrates 2nd Anniversary
Every Sunday in Cambridge, Activist Afternoons provides a time and a space for “Activism without the Hassle.” For two hours from 4-6 pm, organizers from local activist groups offer a range of civic engagement activities, including phone banking, text banking, letter-writing, training and even canvass launches.

On Sunday, October 27th, Activist Afternoons will celebrate its second anniversary by filming volunteers in action. Kavita and Sauli, the talented video production team at Pillay Productions, will be on hand to interview organizers and attendees–from first time attendees to the old-timers.

The November elections are coming up! There’s still time to organize an activity at Activist Afternoons, or bake up a batch of cookies to bring with you to the celebration on October 27th.

Two weeks left to act
Nine Chances to Flip VA
This month, in one week alone, Swing Left and Flippable donors pooled $94,228 for the nine candidates running in the most competitive races in VA. Sheila Bynum-Coleman is just one of those candidates.

This 47-year-old businesswoman and mother of five is running against the most powerful Republican in the state, House Speaker Kirk Cox. If Bynum-Coleman wins, she will be the first black woman in any state legislature to defeat a sitting US House Speaker. Learn more.

Don’t let VA go the way of NC
The election on November 5 is less than two weeks away. That’s about the same number of days that Republican overspent Dan McCready in NC, causing him to lose his 14% lead.

Winning the White House in 2020 – Here’s How
Organizing Corps 2020 is addressing a not-so-secret stumbling block in Democratic campaigns. Typically, field organizers and other volunteers come from affluent backgrounds, and residents of low income, inner-city neighborhoods simply don’t identify with them.

Organizing Corps 2020 is tackling this issue head on. It’s recruiting and training 1,000 local organizers from diverse backgrounds in key battleground states to work on the 2020 presidential campaign.

Swing Left at Honk
Swing Left Greater Boston had lots of fun marching in the Honk Parade, part of an annual festival of activist street bands. Try marching with your activist group in your local parade? It’s a great way to spread the word that activism is fun!
Elections 2020 mini-summit
October 16th, Florence: A crowd of more than sixty came to an Elections 2020 mini-summit organized by the Northampton Democratic City Committee. Swing Left Pioneer Valley sponsored Get Out the Vote letter-writing and postcards to TX, VA, and OH at the event. Presentations by Swing Left, Indivisible, and the Maine Dems focused on the myth of Susan Collins’ moderate image and the game plan for defeating her in 2020.
